To combat the practice of drivers slowing down when passing gatso cameras and then speeding up again, the police are introducing grids of specs cameras linked together. Once a car has entered the gird which may be on a housing estate or similar the car’s number plates are photographed and logged along with the time. As the car passes other cameras in the grid the average speed is computed and if the speed limit has been exceeded the registered keeper is sent a fixed penalty notice in the same way as Gatso cameras work at present. An added bonus of the system is enhanced traffic flow.
