Tetracycline acne treatment – A good solution?
One way to treat acne is by using a tetracycline acne treatment. Tetracycline is a family of antibiotics that sell under many different brand names. These antibiotics can be taken either topically or orally. When applied topically, they work to kill bacteria that are trapped in blocked follicles. The advantage to a topical treatment is that one can avoid problems with upset stomach that may occur with oral treatments. Oral treatments can also interact poorly with other medications a patient may be taking. The disadvantage to a topical treatment comes in when the acne covers areas larger than the the face because it may be awkward to apply. In this case, an oral treatment would be more approriate. While antibiotics can kill the bacteria, they do nothing to help the problems an individual may have with oil secretions or overactive cell behavior that caused the problem in the first place. As with any antibiotic, at times, the bacteria become resistant to it, which has started to happen in this case. Is following this course of treatment worth it, or are there more productive treatments that would yield more permanent results?
