1912 was almost 100 years ago and the people of the world did things a bit differently back then. Here are some interesting Titanic artifacts and the stories behind them.

Though Titanic’s treasures are many, lots of people have delved deep into the ocean to discover what lies within the majestic ship. Items found can usually be seen on display at numerous museums of history.

Adolphe Saalfeld, of Manchester, England, was a perfume maker aboard Titanic when it sank. He was a first-class passenger, always carrying his perfumes with him. Saalfeld fortunately survived the sinking, but three of his perfume samples were found many years later.

Howard Irwin did not board the Titanic. His best friend boarded that morning and brought Irwin’s trunk with him, expecting to meet him on the ship. Though his friend did not survive the wreckage, Irwin’s trunk was recovered.

Jacob Aster, one of the richest men in England, boarded Titanic with his wife. Though Aster did not survive the crash, his wife did. Her life jacket was recovered during an expedition to Titanic.

Joseph Ismay, manager and director of White Star Lines, survived Titanic’s sinking. A letter from Ismay was found, claiming that he almost did not board the ship.
