Ralph Houk, who led the Yankees to a pair of World Series championships in the early ’60s , died Wednesday . He was 90.

Boston Red Sox , one of the teams that went Houk in his managerial career in the majors , reported the death.

The Red Sox spokesman D. Bresciani said Houk died in Winter Haven , Florida, on Wednesday afternoon . The team learned of a grandson of Houk , who lives in Boston. It was not immediately the cause of death .

Houk was the Yankees’ backup catcher , playing just 91 games .

But he made his mark as a manager with 3157 wins in 20 seasons with the Yankees, the Red Sox and Detroit Tigers (Red Sox vs. Yankees Tickets).

He won the World Series titles in 1961 and ’62 with the Yankees in his first two years as a pilot and got the American League pennant the following season .
